Three weeks after Hurricane Katrina worked over the PCEMC system, Hurricane Rita struck Saturday Sept 24 and caused widespread damage to the PCEMC system. For two days PCEMC crews along with 4 employees from the City of New Roads crew and Tony Whaley' crew from Pike Electric Co, worked to bring back up the power. On Monday the crews were joined by three Pike Electric Co crews, totaling 16 men, from South Georgia, 12 employees from 4County EPA from Starksville, MS and 6 employees from Tishomingo Country EPA, Iuka, MS. By Tuesday afternoon PCE had all power restored to those customers who could take power. There were scarried outages where customers need to fix their meter setup before PCE could restore power to them.

The inside employees worked diligently to take the calls from the members over the 4 days. Also PCEMC converted a meeting room into sleeping quarters for some of the crews as all motel rooms were filled with New Orleans evacuees. PCE also housed crews at the American Legion hall and used the shower facilities at the False River High School gym.

The staff and employees of PCE want the thank all of our members for their patience and understanding throughout this natural disaster.
