Pointe Coupee Electric Membership Corporation (PCEMC) recently announced the
recipients of its continuing education scholarships. A winner was chosen from Pointe
Coupee Parish as well as Iberville Parish for the 2007/2008
school year.
The scholarship recipient
from Pointe Coupee Parish is Kirk Paul Taylor,
son of Edward Paul and Mona Jeansonne Taylor of Ventress. Kirk is a senior at False
River
Academyand is a member of the Key Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes
(FCA) and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). Kirk was a member of the
football team and powerlifting teams for four years and a member of the baseball
team
for one year.
Kirk was an alter server
for five years at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was also an
active member of the public school of religion.
Kirk will attend
Baton Rouge Community College
in August 2008 and begin pursuing
a degree in Kinesiology.
Winning the Iberville
Parish scholarship from Pointe Coupee Electric is
Jared Depriest Gilbert, a senior at
Livonia High School
. Jared is the son of Sharlene D.
Thomas and John H. Gilbert of Maringouin. Jared is a member of the Beta Club, FBLA,
LA Gear Up Explorer’s Club and Southern University Talent Search. He also serves
as
the Senior Class Vice-President.
Jared is a member of
the Sweet Home Baptist Church Choir. He has assisted with
fundraising activities to help raise money for the March of Dimes and has helped
make
Thanksgiving food baskets for the needy.
Jared will attend the
University
of
Louisiana
at
Lafayette
in June 2008.
