1,200 Fear Flooding will Leave
them without Power
There have been numerous speculations about whether
consumers in north Pointe Coupee parish will lose electric
service
once the Morganza Spillway is open. Currently, 350 camps in
Old River and the Angola Ferry landing have been
de-energized because of the high water. If officials open
the Morganza Spillway in the next few days, an additional
850 residents and business could be affected. The force of
the flood waters could be strong enough to take out the main
transmission lines that service the substation located at
Quinton. General Manager, Jodie Cotten, would like to
assure our members/consumers that Pointe Coupee Electric
will not shut off power to our substations located in the
Batchelor and Innis areas when the spillway is opened.
Cotten, stated today, “that Pointe Coupee Electric has no
plans to de-energize the transmission lines. If the power
is interrupted, we have in place a contingency plan to
restore power in most of those areas. We are staging crews
in the northern part of the parish in case the roads are
closed. Pointe Coupee Electric wants to assure our
members/consumers that we will do everything in our power to
keep the lights on or to restore power as quickly and
efficiently as possible.
