Pointe Coupee Electric Board Member George LaCour Jr. Receives Board
Leadership Certification
Pointe Coupee Electric board member George G. LaCour Jr., has completed the coursework required to earn special recognition by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). LaCour received his NRECA Board Leadership Certificate at NRECA’s Region 8 meeting in Albuquerque on Nov. 4, 2009. He joins four of his fellow PCEMC board members who hold the certification. All seven members of the board have obtained their Credentialed Cooperative Director Certificate through NRECA’s director training program, distinguishing them as leaders among the national network of more than 900 electric cooperatives. NRECA’s Director Education program emphasizes the importance of locally-elected directors understanding the roles and responsibilities of their position. The program helps directors acquire the knowledge and skills to govern member-owned cooperatives in today’s economic climate. Training courses cover a wide range of topics including board governance, financial decision-making, strategic planning, and current and emerging issues. PCEMC General Manager J.H. Jodie Cotten said, “Our board has the ultimate responsibility for ensuring and evaluating the long-term health of the cooperative through strategic planning and by authoring the appropriate allocation of resources.
