Pointe Coupee Electric was recently honored with the 2010 Spotlight on Excellence awards, sponsored by The Council of Rural Electric Communicators. The story “Pointe Coupee Electric, Parish Leaders Working Together to Tackle Flooding Issues” (Part 2 of 2) which is published in the cooperative’s monthly publication, Louisiana Country, received the Award of Excellence for the category of Best News Story. The story “Pointe Coupee Electric, Local Communities Deal with Flooding Issues” also received the Award of Merit for the category of Best Feature Story.

“This national recognition is something that we are very proud of” said Joanie Bishop, Director of Marketing, Member Services and Communications.

The Council of Rural Electric Communicators honored the award recipients during a special luncheon at the 2010 Connect Conference. All winning entries were displayed at the conference hotel held in Kansas City, Missouri in May.

The Spotlight awards competition is an annual event recognizing the top-rated communication and marketing efforts by electric cooperatives and related organizations. Electric cooperative communicators and marketing professionals submitted more than 700 entries in the Spotlight on Excellence program which is now in its 21st year.

General Manager, Joseph H. “Jodie” Cotten stated, “We feel honored in that it is recognition among our peers that Pointe Coupee Electric is effectively communicating with our membership. This national recognition is something that we are very proud to provide to the members of Pointe Coupee Electric.”

The Council of Rural Electric Communicators was organized in 1982 and seeks to advance the recognition, education and professionalism of electric cooperative communicators and their affiliated organizations. It is a volunteer association working on behalf of approximately 1,300 electric cooperative communicators across the United States. The National Rural Electric Cooperation Association (NRECA), the trade and service organization representing the national interest of cooperative electric utilities, coordinates the Council’s activities.
