Pointe Coupee Electric to Award Continuing Ed Scholarships
Pointe
Coupee Electric Membership Corporation (PCEMC) strives to
promote education and today’s youth. “For many years, the
co-op has sponsored and been involved in many educational
programs within the local schools in our tri-parish service
area.” said Joseph H. “Jodie” Cotten, Jr., general manager
of PCEMC. Some of the programs include the Adopt-A-School
Program, the Gift of Learning, the Washington Youth Tour
Program, the Math & Science Awards Program, Electrical
Safety Programs, participation in the 4-H Club Programs and
so much more. Cotten continued, "PCEMC annually awards
certificates and scholarships to three graduating high
school seniors, one from each of our tri-parish service
areas; Iberville Parish, Pointe Coupee Parish and West Baton
Rouge Parish.” The three $500 scholarships will assist the
students in their continuing education at any accredited
college, university, business or vocational school of their
choice.
The
criteria to be used in selecting the scholarship recipients
will be as follows:

Applicant
must live on PCEMC electric lines or have a parent who is a
manager or owner of a company on PCEMC lines.
Ÿ
Applicant
must have maintained at least a 2.5 overall grade point
average in high school.
Ÿ
Applicant
must submit a copy of high school grade transcript.
Ÿ
Applicant
must be entering freshman year.
Ÿ
Applicant
must be entering as a full-time student.
"The
applicants must meet all the criteria set in order to be
eligible to receive the scholarships," Cotten noted. "The
scholarship recipients will be announced at the PCEMC Annual
Membership Meeting
scheduled
for noon on January 27, 2010. One winner will be selected
from each of the three parishes in which we serve," he
continued.
Applications and eligibility requirements are available at
the local high schools in the tri-parish service area or the
information may be picked up at the PCEMC office in New
Roads. An application will be available for our members in
the November issue of Louisiana Country as well. Application
